Greetings I had some ability tree questions…sorry if I sound like an extreme Carmine novice…because I am. Looking at the ability tree I see that as a PC gains experience they will progress up the ability tree, below are my questions…
• What points (if any) are used to progress along the ability tree? How does a player know when they go to tier 2, 3, 4 etc. • When a player has progressed quite far into the ability tree, do they assume the abilities being used in earlier tree levels…(as an example, Bill the Assassin who has achieved the 6th tier of the Apothecary tree and now has the ability Instant Toxin (page 63 Carmine core rules V. 1.1), it clearly states that an assassin of this tier can, 3 times a day coat their blade with poison as a free action, now my question then is, in addition to doing this ability 3 times a day, does it also assume that the lesser abilities in the tree will apply to this 3 times a day…like the Master Coating ability, which allows the Assassin to have the poison stay on the blade for 2 rounds? I assume the answer here would be yes.

Q1) Progression. All of the progression stuff is spelled out pretty clearly for abilities, attributes and all that jazz on Page 181 in version 1.1 of the core book (P168 of the original) But, the quick of it is, you get your first 2 abilities at L1, another at L2 and another at every even level thereafter, and 1 on Lvl 15.
As far as the trees stacking... Yes. All the abilities do, unless stated otherwise. Some will say they give an additional damage die and then will note (stacked with earlier ability adds to...)
