Greetings all I have a question about the Child of Endilay General ability (which is totally awesome by the way!). If I choose Child of Endilay as a General Ability it says that I may add 5 ranks to a skill, and that you do not need to have the current skill to apply this ability...so, would that mean if I have Child of Endilay and choose a non-trained ability that it would then be 5, or does the 2 points to get a non-starting skill apply (page 98 core rules v. 1.1 Starting Skills), therefore that would adjust the skill to a 3 instead of a 5?

You would get 5 either way. This is basically saying that you have studied this skill during your schooling. So if you chose to add it to an existing skill that was already at 3 then it is 8. If you put it in an untrained skill, it becomes trained up to 5. Note that this is applied to 1 language and 1 knowledge only and can not be added to weapon or other skills.

Right...I understand that...but since it requires 2 points to take a skill that is a non-starting skill, would the 5 points from this ability have the first 2 points consumed to take the skill then add the other 3, which then would make the ability a 4. As an example...
An assassin does not get the mounted combat skill to start with, and if they want to take it later in level progression they would have to spend 2 points to get into the ability and make it a 1...
now...
If I chose Child of Endilay at level 1 it would allow me to add 5 to any rank I was trained in like alchemy...but if I chose to use the ranks that Child of Endilay bestowed upon me, if I apply it to a skill I do not have, wouldn't I be required to apply the first 2 points bestowed from this ability to get mounted combat to a 1, then apply the other 3 points, for a total of 4, or do I simply apply all 5 to mounted combat for a total of 5?
I know this is confusing, just a point of clarity because if so I would definately choose Child of Endilay everytime to essentially get 1 point for free when I choose a non-starting skill or an exisitng skill I already have.

Since you can only take the ability at 1st level it basically counts as one of your starting skills. And you are adding 5 points to your score, not spending 5. So yes, when you get this ability you get 5 points, be it added to 0 or added to an amount you already have.
